integrity.Located within the Office of Teaching and Learning, the
CPS Department of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics) Programs supports inclusive and innovative learning
experiences in math, science, computer science, and whole-school
integrated STEM & STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and
Mathematics) programming across the district.Job Summary:The
Executive Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, &
Mathematics (STEM) will provide the vision and direction for
district-wide K-12 STEM expectations, guidance, and ongoing support
for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention impacting
all students. This position will report to the Deputy Chief,
Teaching & Learning, and will lead a team of direct reports
responsible for Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, STE(A)M
Schools, and City-Wide STEM Initiatives. This is a full-time,
exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary
basis.Responsibilities:
- Set the vision, strategic priorities, and objectives for the
Department of STEM that drive district-wide coherence and
convergence across content areas and align with the district's
vision.
- Lead, develop, and oversee a centralized STEM vision for the
district, including strategic planning, progress monitoring,
budgeting, reporting, contract management, communications, and
marketing.
- Analyze and report on practice data and student academic data;
utilize this data to inform strategic decisions, driving
improvement and student success.
- Lead the Department of STEM Programs to improve student
outcomes via professional learning, curriculum supports, and
partnerships.
- Supervise, develop, and manage the performance of a
high-functioning and collaborative team.
- Participate in cross-departmental collaboration and partnership
with CPS departments on high-priority internal and external
affairs.
- Develop and implement curriculum materials and instructional
tools to strengthen a multi-tiered system of supports.
- Facilitate external partnerships for collaboration on
standards-aligned STEM education and programming.
- Oversee and direct the department's procurement and payroll
processes, as well as grant administration.
- Serve as an active member of the Teaching & Learning leadership
team.
- Act as the district's representative and subject matter expert
for STEM.
- Maintain expertise in current research, practices, and
innovation in the field related to STEM disciplines.
- Coordinate media requests and information.
- Other duties and workstreams as
assigned.Qualifications:Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study from an
accredited college or university.
- Valid teaching certificate/Professional Educator's License
(PEL) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) with
appropriate grade level and content endorsement(s).
- Master's degree in a relevant field of study,
preferred.Experience Required:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of professional leadership
experience managing STEM programs and initiatives in the education
field.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in a supervisory role
leading a team of direct reports.
- Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience in a
STEM-related field.
- Experience as an instructional leader or equivalent educational
leadership role.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deep knowledge/understanding of the CPS Instructional Core
Vision and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Expertise in research-based instructional practices and
strategies, Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, the Next
Generation Science Standards, and 21st Century Learning
Framework.
- Strong leadership and team building skills.
- Effective strategic planning capabilities.
- Excellent leadership development and instructional leadership
skills.
- High standards of performance and exceptional organizational
skills.
- Capable of building and sustaining positive, productive
relationships.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build consensus and leverage expertise with
educators.
- Strong knowledge of operations budget/finance, management, and
organizational development.
- Excellent technology skills (Google Suite).Conditions of
Employment:As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public
Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency: Employees are required to
live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within
